Location
Hawk Island County Park is on Cavanaugh Road between Pennsylvania and Aurelius Roads in beautiful South Lansing, Michigan. The park features a sandy beach and swimming area, spray park, playground, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, fishing docks, boardwalks, paddle and rowboat rental, picnic grounds and shelters, and a beach house/snack bar.
Race Course
Swim 400m
Counterclockwise from north beach to south beach. Wetsuits allowed, encouraged for beginners.
Bike 16k
Single-circuit loop course on smooth, paved roads through beautiful South Lansing and Michigan State University farms.
Run 5k
Scenic paved path out and back on South Lansing's award winning river trail.
Park Policies
No dogs, glass bottles, or alcoholic beverages allowed in Hawk Island County Park! Dogs ARE allowed at the 17 acre leash-free Soldan Dog Park located at the north end of Hawk Island.
Race Policies
NO REFUNDS. PERIOD.
LATE REGISTRATION: Active.com automatically adjusts fees according to the day you register. Early registration ($60) runs through March 31. Registration ends at 11:59 ET on May 31. Late registration begins April 1: April 1-30 ($70), May 1-31 ($80).
BIB TRANSFERS: If you are unable to compete, for whatever reason, it is your responsibility to find a replacement racer. Racers handle all financial transactions related to swapping registrations. In addition, a $25 transfer fee must be paid to SLCDA before transfers are recorded. No transfers allowed after 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 31.
TRANSITION AREA: For the safety and security of our participants, the transition area is off limits to everyone except racers and volunteers (wearing fluorescent volunteer shirts). Race numbers MUST be displayed to gain access to the transition area.
ATHLETE CONDUCT: We reserve the right to disqualify anyone who behaves inappropriately toward fellow competitors, volunteers, or race management staff.
2012 RaceShirts
In order to reduce the footprint of our race, we are asking that racers "opt-in" if they would like to purchase a 2012 Hawk-I-Tri tech shirt for an additional $10 ($12 2-3XL). Race shirt opt-in is available during the online registration process.
Parking
Parking is available for a fee at Hawk Island County Park: $3 for Ingham County residents, $5 for non-residents. Free parking is available in three overflow lots each within a half mile of the race pavilion.
Parking will be assigned according to arrival time on race day. Those who arrive earliest will park in the lots on the east side of the park. Handicap parking is reserved in the area next to the transition area. When these are full, drivers will be directed to overflow lots.
Check-In
Racers may check-in from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, or 6-7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 3, at Hawk Island Park.
Awards
Top three men and women overall, top three masters (40 & older), and top three division winners.
Divisions: boys and girls ages 10-14, men and women ages 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+, Clydesdales (men 220 lbs+) under 40, Clydesdales 40+, Athenas (women 165 lbs+) under 40, and Athenas 40+.
Volunteers
Lifeguards from Lansing Parks & Recreation and local YMCAs will be on shore and in boats monitoring the swim. Volunteers are needed to provide direction on the swim, bike, and run segments of the race. We also need volunteers monitoring the parking and transition areas, serving refreshments, attaching and removing timing devices, and providing body markings. Medical Services
EMS provided by Mercy Ambulance paramedics. First Aid is available in the boat house.
Aid Stations
Water will be available on the run course (2 stations) and in the refreshment area. We will not have water on the bike course – make sure to bring a bottle.
Race Photos
Time Frame Photography has a team of photographers shooting participants during all phases of the race. Racers can view proofs and order prints online.
Massage
Massage therapists are available before, during, and after the race. Free!

17th Annual Chili Cook-off, downtown at Riverfront Park. One ticket allows you to taste dozens of varieties of chili prepared by local restaurants and celebrity chefs. Visitors will also enjoy live music, refreshments, and fun activities, including a mechanical bull and the Annual Duck Derby!

If you prefer camping, Lansing's Cottonwood Campground is exactly one mile south of the Hawk Island County Park. Amenities including a pool, playground, paddle boats, kayaks, game room, party store, and laundry room, as well as full access to the Sycamore River.
